Canadian Idol May 30, 2005 Today marks the beginning of the third season of Canadian Idol, yet another knock off of the American and originally British version, except it's not the same. In my opinion it's not the same in a bad way because it does not reflect what Canada currently is. I can understand the producers' desire to keep the format to the original franchise of music from popular western/North American culture. However, having just watched the American Idol wrap up, the Canadian version is sure to be much of the same thing. Yawn... I think Canadian Idol should be true to Canada's multicultural identity. We have the world in our boundaries and the show should reflect this. My proposal: allow candidates to perform in any language from any culture. The winner will truly be a Canadian idol. by John E.
